36. Technology

Throughout this process I have used many different resources to make my school magazine, research and my final music magazine.

I have mainly used an Apple Imac during school time (lessons), and if I could use one in my free periods I would. I used the mac for research, and making my school magazine at the begging of the process. Some people had difficulty working the macs however I am used to their software and prefer it over windows as I have a mac at home too. I feel they are professional and can offer a professional finish to whatever work you do on them.

For my work from home I was able to use my Mac which was perfect as the software was suited, and there were no complications through transferring work. It allowed me to do all what I did at school and finish off my magazine. The one problem was trying to view my magazine on full screen you could never view the whole thing on a smaller laptop like you could on the larger school macs. Therefore it was harder to visualise what the magazine would look like. As the laptop is portable I was able to carry on the work anywhere this was helpful as I could bring it into school in my free periods and finish anything I needed to.
To transfer work from Mac to Mac I used my hard drive, I feel these are more reliable than a memory stick as you can store more items and its bigger so you are less likely to loose it.

To make both my preliminary task and final task I used the Mac supported program "Pages". I found it was an easy program to use and allowed me to do everything I wanted, however it was complicated when it came to the double page spread as it did not allow you to let the text flow from one page to the other continuously.

I have my own camera a Cannon SX200 and I used this for both my school magazine and my music magazine. It is a fairly high quality camera and I am always pleased with both the quality and outcome of pictures whenever I use it.

To edit my pictures I used Iphoto which is on the mac, it is a simple editing software and only allows you to crop, tilt, change brightness and contrast, redeye and get rid of any imperfections. Which to be honest is all I really needed it for as the camera takes pictures to a high standard. However it would of been nice to be able to use photshop or another higher quality photo editor just to have an overall more professional look.

For me Google is the fastest most efficient search engine and I use it for all of my subjects, As I use it often and trust the information and links it gives me I used google a lot for research and background information.

I used the Google associated Blogger to upload everything I do in association to my magazines. I have uploaded all the changes and tweaks to my magazine and any background information or research that I have carried out.
